BERLIN - SEPTEMBER 18: A fourth-grade student reads a book with her teacher in the elementary school at the John F. Kennedy Schule dual-language public school on September 18, 2008 in Berlin, Germany. The German government will host a summit on education in Germany scheduled for mid-October in Dresden. Germany has consistantly fallen behind in recent years in comparison to other European countries in the Pisa education surveys, and Education Minister Annette Schavan is pushing for an 8 percent increase in the national educaiton budget for 2009. READING
If your child struggles with reading, Striders is here to help your student become a more proficient reader. The goal of our reading program is to teach students to become independent readers. Once students are enrolled, they will be assessed in phonics, sight words, fluency, and comprehension. Based on the results of their assessment, an instructional program will be developed to increase their sight word vocabulary, develop decoding skills, improve their rate of reading and fluency and improve their comprehension skills. To instill a love for reading, each session will begin with 10 minutes of sustained silent reading and end with tutors reading to them.

Math

MATH
“I don’t get it!” or “I can’t do it!” If these are common expressions from your child, our Striders staff is here to help!  Developing strong math skills in elementary school is critical to future success. We will determine why your child doesn’t get it and then develop a plan to help him understand. Whether your child needs help with basic facts or the complexity of fractions and decimals, our tutors are here to help.

Grades 9 to 12

Once your child gets to high school, the math and science classes they take get increasingly more difficult. Skills and concepts build on one another from subject to subject. Once students get behind, they never seem to catch up and find completing homework challenging and frustrating.  Chautauqua Striders is here to help. Our trained tutors can help your child regain confidence and teach them the skills and strategies to gain course credit.

If your child needs academic support or Regents prep in Algebra I, Algebra II, Algebra II/Trigonometry, Geometry, Earth Science, Biology, or Chemistry, call Striders!

Off-Site Tutoring

Currently, tutoring is offered both in the South County and North County, both in schools and at secondary locations.  Through partnerships with various schools and area youth serving organizations, Chautauqua Striders is also able to offer additional tutoring to students enrolled in afterschool program or clubs.
